    Operating MSDE 2000

I know MSDE works on Windows 98, but has anybody specifically targetted that platform for a tiny database application? Given its infamous horrible memory management, and adding the list of limitations as defined in the link above, I wonder just how long an MSDE instance can survive on a Win98 system before it crashes and begs for a reboot?

There is a client of a client using an old VB6/Access app with > 20,000 records, which I believe is running on Win98, and frequently crashing (i suspect due to a deteriorated Win98) while operating the software. I wish to discard Access in favour of MSDE. While I'd certainly recommend upgrading to Windows XP, i should prepare for a "desire" to remain with Windows 98 on the client's part *cough*.

    Your experiences?

Given Windows 98's horrible track-record on reliability, I'd write a script which reboots that sucker nightly.  I am so glad that I don't have to support Windows 9x anymore.
