    "Longhorn" is now Windows Vista

Today Microsoft announced Windows Vista, formerly codename "Longhorn".  Julie has a screenshot on her blog.  Beta 1 for WindowsVista will be available very soon, on August 3rd.

...Oh and be sure to visit the official Microsoft site at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista (and also www.windowsvista.us). The site currently has the announcement video only, but more is to come. Congratulations Microsoft! [<:o)]

Re: "Longhorn" is now Windows Vista

I downloaded the beta off MSDN Subscribers' and installed it on a real disk partition as opposed to Virtual PC like most others are doing. Since I installed onto a real machine, albeit old model, and it rightfully detects the GeForce3 video card, I was expecting to see just how wonderful the new graphical subsystem can be.

Well i went into the Vista desktop for the first time and noticed no transparency over the windows. I searched around the usual Display properties and found nothing that controls such a feature. So this feature they have been bragging about is out of reach, or hidden somewhere else? Or is a GeForce3 not up to the task? even when it renders transparency with ease in World of Warcraft?
