Smile [:)] Windows XP vs. Windows Home

What's the major difference between Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home?  To me, the main thing that makes me want Pro is the fact that it comes with IIS (although it doesn't have it installed by default - you have to manually install it - but that's not a big deal).  Also there are some security settings that you can set in XP that aren't allowed in Home.  Does someone have a link that explains all the differences?

Idea [I] Re: Windows XP vs. Windows Home

    Hi Steve,

Great question :) Windows XP provides additional features such as file system encryption and access control, as well as some neat things like remote access to the desktop. Here is a pretty full breakdown of the different features:

Re: Windows XP vs. Windows Home

The biggest differences, as far as I was always concerned was that there was no IIS, and I always presumed that Home can't join a domain.

No IIS is enough for me to have never have looked at it :)

To add to this, I believe there is also a limitation on 5 XP Home PCs you can have in a workgroup.
I believe there is also a limitation on 5 XP Home PCs you can have in a workgroup.
Woah that is some pretty draconian measure. So much for some serious LAN partying (I mean, file sharing).

The "problem" with Home is it really is meant for home use. You cannot join up an AD domain and run IIS (unless you wish to hack aplenty). Not suitable for us developers at all.

Yeah, really.  I refuse to run Windows XP Home Edition.  It's too slimmed down for my liking.  Professional is the way to go with me.
