    Vista and Brother

I upgraded from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate. The upgrade went pretty smooth. However, I have a Brother MFC-8440. I am able to print on Vista as it recognized the printer and installed the driver. But I am not able to perform the rest of the functions like scan, fax, etc. The device came with a software for that. So I tried reinstalling the software. It won’t reinstall. So I contacted Brother. They don’t seem to be ready with the new version.

When trying to install MFL-Pro Suite, after a few steps, it fails saying: Cannot get Device Name Brother MFC-8440<followed by some escape characters>

    Re: Vista and Brother

Due to unfortunate problems between WinXP and my company Toshiba laptop (Tecra M3), I was effectively forced to upgrade to WinVista to attain a comfortable working condition. While on most part (the stuff to do my development work) it is operating fine. There are a slew of driver and software incompatibilties that I have not gone around to fully resolving. for example the new Sleep feature does not always reactivate the LCD monitor, leaving me with a "blind" system.

So to ensure proper operation with existing hardware, check to make sure there are new WDDM drivers and their accompanying utility software for them to work cooperatively with WinVista before considering the upgrade.
